A Travel Blog

Anonymous tales of traveling:

Where do I start? The three kids are out of the house and off to college or starting their careers. It’s just me, the wife, and two dogs, and we are both burned out with work. One leisurely Saturday, the wife says, “let’s take the equity of our house and get an RV and hit the open road.” It wasn’t something I had expected from her or something I had thought about. I could only think of comedies, like the Albert Brooks classic Lost in America (similar to what she just suggested, RV with Robin Williams, or Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis in We’re the Millers. Fine for viewing, but is that us?

The following weekend I found ourselves snacking on hot dogs, kettle corn, and free sodas of the latest energy drink at the RV and Boat Show near the stadium downtown. I had no idea the options available to us. I guess it’s like walking through a new housing development and seeing the builder upgrades. You think you know what you want and the budget, but then you see the cool features in the bedroom, the kitchen, the bathroom, and seating. Oh wait, the Entertainment System? Great for the nights after a long drive, we need to have the best, right? Then there’s the after-market items we didn’t even think about, the first was the Garmin RV 1090 10″ RV GPS Navigator with 10″ Hard Shell Carrying Case & Deco Gear Bundle (that one came out of my golfing budget).
